Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels may have relented in his attempt to gut state workers’ collective bargaining rights—he told state Republicans to drop the bill—but Republican governors are increasingly turning their sights on unions as they attempt to close state budget gaps. New Jersey could be the next site of controversy, as Governor Chris Christie says property-tax cuts are dependent on increasing what government workers pay for health insurance. Republicans insist there is no coordinated attack on unions; however, the Republican Governors Association has launched a new website supporting Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, who warned missing Democrats of “dire consequences” for their actions Tuesday.
