In a pre-emptive strike against President Obama's State of the Union address, GOP lawmakers are already lashing out at calls for new stimulus spending that the president plans to make on Tuesday. Now is “not a time to be looking at pumping up government spending,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said Sunday. Obama, while he plans to address plans to cut the soaring deficit in his big speech, will also call for targeted spending in education, innovation, and research, according to previews of his remarks his staff has made available.
