Gordie Howe, ‘Mr. Hockey,’ Dead at 88

Gordie Howe, regarded by many including Wayne Gretzky as the greatest hockey player ever, has died at age 88. Mr. Hockey won four Stanley Cups with the Detroit Red Wings from 1946 to 1971. Born in Canada, Howe began his NHL career in 1947 and retired in 1980 at age 52. Howe is the only player to have played in five decades and remains the oldest player to have played. Howe ranks third all-time in points (1,850), with 801 goals scored and 1,049 assists. Not only was Howe a skilled shooter, he was also a bruiser, collecting 1,685 minutes in the penalty box. Howe is a legend in his native Canada and adopted hometown of Detroit, both of which have dedicated a new crossing as the Gordie Howe International Bridge.
