After nearly three years as British prime minister, Gordon Brown should know there’s no such thing as a dead microphone. While meeting with voters during his already flagging campaign, Brown was verbally challenged by a 65-year-old woman named Gillian Duffy on issues like immigration and crime. On camera, Brown responded politely. But once he returned to his car, he was caught saying, "That was a disaster," and called Duffy “a bigoted woman.” Brown is now traveling to apologize in person after delivering an apology on the phone. Asked if it made up for the insult, Duffy said, “No—absolutely not.”
