The Government Accountability Office, the top auditing institution of the federal government, announced Monday that it will review how classified information is protected at President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort. The review will also look into expenses incurred by government employees accompanying Trump on trips to the Palm Beach club, the GAO said in a letter to lawmakers, Reuters reported. The review comes after private guests at the resort published photos of Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe looking at classified information in the club’s public dining area in February. The GAO also said it would check if Trump has made payments to the U.S. Treasury from his hotel company’s profits—a pledge his lawyer made at a Jan. 11 news conference in response to concerns over profits from foreign governments. Sen. Tom Udall (D-NM), who called for a probe into Trump’s Mar-a-Lago activities along with Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) in mid-February, said Monday that citizens “deserved to know who has access to the president, how much it’s costing to protect him, and whether the Trump Organization is benefiting from that protection.” On Friday, Udall introduced a bill that would require the White House to provide a log of all the visitors who meet with Trump.
