The statement also shared that, according to doctors’ orders, the 67-year-old star “will not be able to perform at her forthcoming September scheduled shows in Costa Mesa, CA on September 5th and in Louisville, KY on September 24th.” The “I Love Rock and Roll” singer had her big break with the teenage punk rock girl band, The Runaways, in the 70s. After their split, she founded her own band, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, with whom she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015. “She’s looking forward to delivering tremendous concerts for many years to come,” the statement concluded.

QVC host Toni Brattin was left mortified after an unfortunate gaffe while trying to sell a wig live on-air. During a broadcast on Wednesday, Brattin was displaying a “Salon Select Wig” to viewers while praising how it looks and feels. “It looks like you went and got a b---job at your–a blowout at your salon,” Brattin said before muttering under her breath, “oh my God,” and stifling laughter. Co-host Terri Conn then had to take the reins and carry on with the show, with a mortified Brattin comically collapsing to the floor in embarrassment, which also promoted laughter from Conn. Speaking to TMZ after the incident went viral online, Brattin said she had no idea the camera was still on her when she fell to her knees. “It’s live television, and you know we all make mistakes,” Brattin said. “At that time I’m just hoping that the camera gets off me, but I can’t really see from behind me as I’m talking. I just want to get this shut down, and hopefully Terry saves my butt.”

A measles-infected visitor spent 11 hours at the Universal Studios theme park, and now health officials are warning other attendees. The Los Angeles County Public Health Department issued a warning on Wednesday to visitors to the Hollywood theme park between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. on July 26. “With summer travel underway, the risk of exposure to infectious diseases may increase,” said Muntu Davis, the Los Angeles County Health Officer. “We urge everyone to confirm their immunity and get the MMR vaccine if needed, especially before traveling and attending crowded events.” Just days before the news, vaccine-skeptic Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. went against his usual anti-vaccine rhetoric, encouraging vaccination for the severely contagious disease amid the highest number of cases seen in 35 years. There have been more recorded measles cases in his term than there have been in the rest of the 21st century. Health officials from the county warn that people who attended the park on July 26 may be at risk of developing symptoms for up to 21 days after exposure.

The fate of CNN, undoubtedly the world’s most famous name in news, hangs in the balance. Donald Trump, as much as anyone, continues to think that CNN is CNN. He hates it for that—and he thinks he’s using his power to kill it. To sum up the state of play as quickly as I can: David Ellison has used his father, Larry Ellison’s, money to take control of Paramount. Larry is a Trump supporter, and Trump helped push the deal through. The Ellisons’ bid for Warner Bros. Discovery (crucially, CNN is part of WBD) was immediately countered by a bid from Netflix—which the WBD board preferred and hurried to accept. But then the Ellisons bid more. The Ellisons getting this deal would mean that Trump had well and truly vanquished CNN, his enemy. So a whole bunch of blue state attorneys general got together and sued to stop the deal. But then came the Ellisons’ ju-jitsu move: They agreed to delay the deal if all sides would accept an early trial date—which, this week, was set for March 2027. News is not really the point for David Ellison... And he is not dumb enough to go to trial. This leaves Trump with a surprise ending—and CNN with a fate no one saw coming.

A 51-year-old Florida man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder for allegedly turning off an 18-year-old scuba diver’s air supply during a feud over a lobster diving spot. Hunter Cofer was underwater searching for lobsters at about 7 a.m. on July 29 when the suspect, Michael Simpson, sped up on his boat and anchored it near Cofer’s boat. Simpson then began arguing with the boat’s captain, saying they were in his spot, according to investigators. At one point, he allegedly became irate and threatened to turn off Cofer’s breathing system, then jumped in the water and made good on his threat. The boat owner immediately jumped into the water and pulled Cofer to the surface, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office. He was gasping for air, appeared disoriented, and did not understand what had happened, according to an arrest form. Simpson fled the area but voluntarily surrendered to the authorities nearly a week later. He was charged with attempted second-degree murder but plans to plead not guilty. According to his attorney, he never touched Cofer’s tank.

Americans aren’t convinced the war with Iran is anywhere close to over, despite President Donald Trump’s claims that his administration is locked in talks to bring a close to hostilities.

In fact, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll, they expect things to get worse before they get better, and those who think the Middle East will spiral into chaos outnumber those who think the war will bring more stability by a ratio of three to one.

The six-day poll concluded Monday, the same day Trump again backed away from threatened “massive attacks” on Iran, underscoring the uncertainty surrounding a five-month conflict he initially predicted would deliver a swift victory.

On July 23, Trump told Axios he was “considering a massive attack” that would be “bigger than ever before,” adding he was “close to making a decision.”

But by July 27, following reports that senior leadership had advised him to hold off, Trump told reporters he was pursuing negotiations instead. “They want to meet, and we’re meeting,” Trump said, traveling on Air Force One. “We’ll see what happens.” Iran denied that direct talks with the United States were taking place.

Talks or not, the American public isn’t buying the reassurances. Fifty percent of poll respondents said they expect U.S. military action in Iran to destabilize the Middle East over the next year, roughly three times the 17 percent who said the war would bring more stability. Another 16 percent said stability would stay about the same, while 17 percent said they were unsure.

Respondents were similarly pessimistic about gas prices, which have climbed as Iran chokes off traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical corridor for global oil supplies.

Fifty-eight percent said they expect gas prices to get worse, compared with just 15 percent who expect improvement.

Even Republicans, who overwhelmingly back Trump personally, are split on how his war is playing out. While 80 percent of Republicans approve of Trump’s overall performance and 66 percent back his handling of Iran, 41 percent believe Middle East stability will actually improve over the next year because of the war.

The conflict, which Trump launched alongside Israel in late February, has cost U.S. taxpayers at least $37.5 billion, killed 18 U.S. service members and killed thousands of Iranians. Just 35 percent of Americans approve of the war overall.

Asked which party has a better approach to handling war and terrorism, registered voters picked Democrats over Republicans, 37 percent to 36 percent, the first time Democrats have led on the question since Reuters/Ipsos began asking it in December 2024, when Republicans led 39 percent to 28 percent. The same polling has shown voters now see Democrats as better equipped to manage the economy for the first time in roughly a decade.

“This war was unpopular the day it started, and it’s gotten more unpopular since,” said Justin Logan, director of defense and foreign policy studies at the Cato Institute, a Washington think tank.

Logan said Trump faces a difficult tradeoff, having set ambitious goals for the conflict—destroying Iran’s missile capabilities and preventing it from ever obtaining a nuclear weapon— while also trying to limit U.S. casualties and the political fallout that could come with them.

“That incoherence, or rudderlessness, in the conduct of the war is causing more problems for the president,” Logan said.

David Owori, the captain of a Ugandan soccer club, has died after being brutally attacked during a robbery outside his home in Kampala. The 27-year-old player of the country’s national team and SC Villa team was assaulted late Tuesday after trying to stop thieves from stealing his cellphone and other belongings. Witnesses told local media the attackers repeatedly struck him with paving stones before fleeing the scene. Passersby found Owori, widely known by his nickname “Colgate,” and rushed him to Sir Albert Cook Hospital. He was later transferred to Case Hospital for specialized treatment but died from his injuries early Wednesday. Police said investigators are collecting evidence and searching for those responsible. SC Villa called the killing a “senseless act” and urged authorities to bring the attackers to justice. “We call upon the relevant security and law enforcement agencies to urgently pursue, apprehend, and bring to justice the perpetrators of this heinous crime,” the team wrote in a statement. The club described Owori as a respected leader whose commitment and professionalism inspired teammates and supporters. The Uganda national team said Owori “carried the hopes of a nation.”
