Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras resigned Thursday in an attempt to quell party rancor and bolster support for Greece’s last-ditch bailout agreement. Tsipras is seeking to trigger early elections after factions of his far-left Syriza party voiced opposition to the proposed bailout agreement with the European Union. Tsipras would likely be re-elected to his post after the vote, because he remains popular in the country.
