Greek Terrorist Escapes

Christodoulos Xiros, 55, a convicted member of the deadly November 17 guerrilla organization, is the target of a nationwide search in Greece after he failed to report during a prison furlough. He was serving multiple life terms for brutal attacks on Greek, British, and American business and political targets. Members of the group, which mixes Marxism and nationalism, have been convicted in 23 killings and a number of bombings. Fears are rising in Greece over a return of widespread political violence, especially in advance of festivities celebrating the country’s taking on the role of the EU’s rotating six-month presidency.
