Grisly Photos May Implicate Assad

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime may be culpable for international war crimes, thanks to a new report featuring photos of people suffering from starvation, beatings, strangulations, and other forms of torture. “This is a smoking gun,” said David Crane, one of the report’s authors and the special prosecutor who charged Liberian President Charles Taylor with war crimes and crimes against humanity. “Any prosecutor would like this kind of evidence—the photos and the process. This is direct evidence of the regime’s killing machine.”
