Guam Issues Same-Sex Marriage Licenses

It's the first territory to lift ban.

On Tuesday morning, gay couples in Guam started applying for marriage licenses, as their island is now the first U.S. territory to recognize same-sex marriage. A lawsuit against a registrar for denying a license in April paved the way, and after a legal battle between the attorney general and the governor, the ban was struck down on Friday. Gay couples can begin to wed five days after the license application.
