Guardian Appoints First Female Editor

OVERDUE

After 194 years.

British newspaper The Guardian has appointed Katharine Viner as its first female editor in chief. Viner will be only the 12th editor in the history of the 194-year-old newspaper, which had been headed by Alan Rusbridger for the past 20 years. She was overwhelmingly endorsed by a staff vote several weeks ago. Viner currently heads The Guardian’s U.S. edition.
