The more things change, the more they stay the same. Despite the deadly shooting in Tucson that killed six and wounded 13, lawmakers on both sides of the battle for gun control said there is little chance there will be any changes in gun laws. Although bills are being drafted in Washington to step up background checks, many said they believed lawmakers are less receptive than ever to new gun restrictions. Both the Crossroads of the West gun show and the Shot Show are still scheduled to proceed next week, despite the quietness from the National Rifle Association since the shooting. Representatives from both sides of the aisle who proposed new gun restrictions— Peter King (R-NY) and Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY)—both said they didn’t expect new laws to be passed.
