On Friday evening, Kevin Downing, a 68-year-old veteran from Ft. Lee, New Jersey, opened fire at a New York federal building in SoHo. The suspect is believed to have injured a security officer before committing suicide. The officer, who was not a federal agent, was declared dead at Bellvue Hospital. Several offices, including a Veterans Health Administration, Immigration Court, a U.S. Post Office and a federal detention center are housed in the building.
