In an exclusive interview with Foreign Policy, former Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel claimed that Obama administration officials actively sought to “destroy” him before he was fired by feeding negative anonymous stories about him to various media outlets. Hagel also detailed how President Obama personally called him to ask him to “stand down” on his plans to bomb Syria after President Bashar al-Assad violated the “red line” by using chemical weapons on his own people.
