People can begin dieting with their pets: More than half of U.S. pets are overweight, with 20 percent of dogs qualifying as “obese.” The reasons are obvious: too much food and too little exercise. What counts as fat? A 15-pound cat is equal to a 254-pound, 5’9” man. To fight the epidemic, vets will begin assigning dogs a Body Condition score from one (too skinny) to five (obese).
