Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid gave a plea to Republicans, saying they needed to compromise and approve his deal while the House rejected his plan. “We have a proposal the president will sign,” Reid said in a press conference Saturday afternoon. “We can’t do this alone, we need the Republicans to join us.” While Reid says he may have four out of seven Republicans he needs to join with the Democrats to prevent a Republican filibuster and send the bill to the president, the House took the symbolic measure Saturday afternoon and rejected his proposal. He and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi headed to the White House at 3:30 p.m. for a meeting with the president, while Speaker John Boehner and the Republicans planned a press conference.
