Herman Cain, the talk-show host from Georgia and former CEO of Godfather’s Pizza, is performing extraordinarily well in a new Iowa poll, the first since Donald Trump and Mike Huckabee dropped out. Cain is a relative unknown, but he comes in behind only Mitt Romney’s 21 percent, and he’s tied for second with the far more famous Sarah Palin at 15 percent. He’s polling better than candidates who have gotten much more attention, such as Newt Gingrich, Michele Bachmann, and Tim Pawlenty. The once-again prescient Nate Silver pretty much predicted Cain’s surge, noting that he’s extremely popular even though only about one third of Republican voters are familiar with him.
