‘Heroic’ Retired NYPD Cop Dies from 9/11-Linked Cancer

A retired New York police officer died this week from cancer he contracted while working in the wreckage of the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. Robert Summers passed away on Tuesday at a hospice at the age of 52, nearly 16 years after terrorists hit the Twin Towers. “He was there from day one,” Rev. Brian Jordan told the New York Daily News. “A lot of people loved him. He was a great cop, would give you the skin right off his back.”
