Hillary Clinton walked back her previous remarks about coal on the campaign trail in West Virginia on Monday, saying it was a “misstatement” to say she would put coal miners and companies “out of business.” Bo Copley, one of 11 people who met with the Democratic presidential frontrunner at a roundtable meeting in Williamson, prodded Clinton about her comments during a town-hall forum in March. At the time, Clinton was talking about economic opportunity with clean renewable energy when she said, “We’re going to put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business.” Clinton said that though she believed the comment was taken out of context, she misspoke. “It was a misstatement because what I was saying is the way things are going now, they will continue to lose jobs. It didn’t mean that we were going to do it. What I said is that is going to happen unless we take action to help and prevent it.”
