It’s not exactly a juicy tell-all, but Secretary of State Hillary Clinton does get a few things off her chest in her new memoir, Hard Choices. Clinton addresses such topics as Benghazi (“There will never be perfect clarity on everything that happened”), Syria, Russia and Vladimir Putin (he is “thin-skinned and autocratic”), and the trading of five Taliban fighters for Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl. “In every discussion about prisoners, we demanded the release of [Bergdahl], who had been captured in 2009. There would not be any agreement about prisoners without the sergeant coming home. …I acknowledged, as I had many times before, that opening the door to negotiations with the Taliban would be hard to swallow for many Americans after so many years of war.” She also talks about the most valuable things passed on to her by past Secretaries of State, her refusal to attack Sarah Palin “just for being a woman appealing for support from other women,” and helping plan daughter Chelsea’s wedding.
