The coveted role of former first lady Jackie O has gone to Katie Holmes after A-listers reportedly fought to join the upcoming miniseries, The Kennedys. Joining Holmes in the History Channel project are Greg Kinnear as President John F. Kennedy, Tom Wilkinson (Michael Clayton) as the family’s patriarch Joe Kennedy Sr., and Barry Pepper (Saving Private Ryan) as Bobby Kennedy. “Our goal was A-list auspices behind and in front of the camera,” History Channel General Manager Nancy Dubuc told Variety. “We could not be more pleased that these incredibly talented actors have agreed to sign on to the miniseries.” This month, Entertainment Weekly reported Rachel Weisz had earned the part of the iconic first lady. Though Wednesday’s announcement debunks that rumor, the History Channel confirms that The Kennedys will run as an eight-hour scripted miniseries next year, exploring the personal relationships in one of America’s most famous families.
