Hong Kong Charges Student Leaders

Three student leaders in Hong Kong were charged Friday for organizing the massive pro-democracy protests that paralyzed parts of the city for more than two months. Oscar Lai, Agnes Chow, and Derek Lam were charged with inciting others to join illegal assemblies and then released. Protesters holding yellow umbrellas, a symbol of Hong Kong’s democracy movement, shouted slogans like “I want universal suffrage” and “Support the students” as the group was taken in.
