Hotel Transylvania 2 took a bite out of the box office with $47.5 million in its debut weekend, making it the biggest September opening of all time. The animated flick replaced Hotel Transylvania, which previously held the record when it earned $42.5 million in 2012. The family film features a star-studded cast, including Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Kevin James and Keegan-Michael Key. Anne Hathaway and Robert DeNiro’s comedy The Intern took the second slot with $18.2 million while Fox’s Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials came in third, dropping 54 percent in its second weekend with $14 million.
