Get ready for more NPR pledge drives. House Republicans proposed massive cuts to the federal budget on Friday, urging that its leaders make good on a promise to slash $100 billion from this year’s budget. A wide range of domestic programs and foreign aid would be affected. Notably, the GOP lawmakers suggest cutting $3 billion from the Environmental Protection Agency, which would be a 30 percent cut. And the Corporation for Public Broadcasting would be cut entirely. “These were hard decisions, and I know many people will not be happy with everything we’ve proposed in this package,” said Rep. Hal Rogers (R-KY), who spearheaded the cuts. The spending bill will be considered on the floor next week.
