On Friday, the House approved a bill that directs the federal government to move forward with construction of the Keystone XL oil pipeline by a vote of 252 to 161. The votes, however, are not likely to clear the vote in the Senate which is scheduled for Tuesday. Even if it does, President Obama has indicated that he will veto the measure. The pipeline would carry petroleum from the Canadian oil sands to Gulf Coast refineries.
