A temporary protective order filed in Georgia alleges that Lafayette movie theater shooter John Russell Houser threatened his daughter in 2008 over her impending marriage. Filed on April 24, 2008, the order alleges that he “has a history of mental-health issues, i.e., manic depression and/or bipolar disorder.” It also says that he threatened Kirby Ellen Houser, making "ominous as well as disturbing statements to the Plaintiffs that the Housers’ marriage will not occur.” His wife, Kellie Maddox Houser, “has become so worried about the Defendant’s volatile mental state that she has removed all guns and/or weapons from their marital residence.” The order was lifted on May 8th of that year. Kellie Maddox Houser filed for divorce on March 24, 2015, and the papers say she did not know where her husband lived. They had been separated since December 23, 2012.
Update: This post originally identified Kirby Ellen Houser as Houser's daughter-in-law. She is his daughter.
