An Italian transportation official confirmed at least 22 people were killed and eight injured after a huge section of a highway bridge in Genoa collapsed, falling onto buildings and streets below during a violent storm. Italian police posted images showing the bridge collapsed over houses and a railway, and the Associated Press cited a firefighter saying 20 vehicles had been on the collapsed section of the bridge. An image tweeted by Italian firefighters showed a truck teetering on the edge of the collapsed area—the bridge is reported to have been some 300 feet high.
