The strongest tropical storm of the season so far, Danielle, was upgraded to a Category 4 hurricane Friday morning, with winds reaching up to 135 miles per hour. It is currently over 500 miles south east of Bermuda and could hit Florida and the Eastern Seaboard by Labor Day, with swells from Danielle expected to hit the U.S. later today. But even if Danielle somehow steers clear of the East Coast, weather patterns suggest that the floodgates could open for more storms. “I’m beginning to feel more and more confident that the Gulf and Florida will become targets for hurricane strikes as we approach and move through the Labor Day weekend,” one senior meteorologist said. “Once this trough is removed, the U.S. seaboard along with the Gulf will be under the gun.”
