Now this could be a problem: Hurricane Earl is getting stronger as it batters the Caribbean’s Northern Leeward Islands and could swipe the U.S. East Coast as it strengthens into a Category 3 hurricane. Right now, Earl’s maximum wind speed is 110 m.p.h., only a little slower than major hurricane status, but will probably get faster today. The hurricane is expected to swing northwest and pass within 300 miles of North Carolina’s Cape Hatteras. The whole eastern seaboard is advised to closely monitor the storm.
