ICE Detains Domestic-Violence Victim

Six federal immigration agents reportedly went to the El Paso County Courthouse last week and arrested an undocumented woman who had just received a protective order alleging that she had been a victim of domestic violence. County officials are said to be concerned that undocumented victims of abuse will now feel forced to stay with their abusers out of fear of these exact kind of repercussions. El Paso County Attorney Jo Anne Bernal said the woman re-entered the country illegally after being deported and is being held in the El Paso County jail. Bernal said she suspected the alleged abuser had been the one to tip off ICE.
