It’s déjà vu all over again in Iceland. The Icelandic aviation authority closed down its main airport Sunday after Saturday’s volcanic eruption due to fears of an ash cloud—and said more airports are likely to shut down. Despite earlier predictions from scientists that the Grimsvotn eruption would not impact flight traffic, forecasters said Sunday the ash cloud had spread over the country and it will most likely continue throughout the day. Iceland is one of the world’s most volcanically active countries and eruptions occur frequently, though they rarely cause deaths. Nearly 10 million travelers were stranded last year when airports shut down across Europe for five days after the eruption of Iceland's Eyjafjallajokul volcano as winds pushed the ash cloud across the Atlantic.
