The court of not-so-final appeal? India’s government asked the Supreme Court to review a decision that upheld a colonial-era law criminalizing gay sex and which drew vociferous international criticism. The court is expected to examine the review petition in the near future, though its ruling last week maintained that only legislators, and not judges, could change the law. The anti-gay law dates back to the 1860s, and prescribed punishment of up to 10 years in prison for “carnal intercourse against the order of nature.” "Let's hope the right to personal choices is preserved," law minister Kapil Sibal said.
