Indian officials announced the country’s military executed “surgical strikes” on Pakistani-controlled Kashmir early Thursday morning. The statement claimed the attacks caused “significant casualties to terrorists” who were allegedly planning an attack on Indian territory. Despite those claims, Pakistan said no surgical strike had occurred in the area and contended that it had confronted small-arms fire Thursday morning that caused two fatalities. Officials in Pakistan said India's statement was a “fabrication” and “an illusion being deliberately generated by India to create false effects.” Pakistan Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said in a statement, “If India tries to do this again, we will respond forcefully.” He added, “India is doing this only to please their media and public.”
