An Indian couple was found guilty Monday of the 2008 double murder of their 14-year-old daughter, Aarushi Talwar, and their domestic servant, Hemraj, in a case that has captivated the country. Aarushi was found dead in their Delhi home in May 2008 with her throat slit and a fatal head injury, and investigators initially suspected Hemraj. But Hemraj’s body was found bludgeoned to death on the Talwars’ roof just one day later. Authorities allege the Talwars destroyed evidence and mislead investigators as they continually denied the murders, although police in the region have been criticized for shoddy work. After the verdict was read, the Talwars reportedly burst into tears and there was pandemonium outside the courtroom.
