Injured President Appears on TV

It seems Yemen's President Ali Abdullah Saleh's injuries were worse than he let on. Saleh made his first television appearance since the bombing of his compound a month ago, speaking in a prerecorded message from Saudi Arabia. His face was darkened from severe burns, both his arms were bandaged, and he didn't move. "I underwent eight surgical operations," said Saleh. He didn't say whether he would return to Yemen. The announcement appeared designed to bolster his supporters back home, where his family has moved to fill the power vacuum left by his absence.
