A NATO inquiry has found that a U.S. soldier accidentally shot and killed BBC reporter Ahmed Omed Khpulwak in July. Khupulwak was one of 19 people killed in a firefight between NATO forces and the Taliban in the town of Tarin Kowt, Afghanistan. The report says soldiers were attempting to clear a building after two suicide bombers had detonated explosives when they saw a man with “something clinched in one of his fists and reaching for something on his person with his other hand.” The soldiers, thinking the man was detonating a suicide bomb, shot and killed him. The BBC's David Loyn says Khpulwak may have been reaching for his press card.
