Intel Chief Executive Brian Krzanich has stepped down from his role after the chip maker learned of his “consensual relationship” with an employee. Krzanich, 58, joined Intel in 1982 and had been CEO since May 2013. “Intel was recently informed that Mr. Krzanich had a past consensual relationship with an Intel employee,” the company said in a statement. “An ongoing investigation by internal and external counsel has confirmed a violation of Intel’s non-fraternization policy, which applies to all managers. Given the expectation that all employees will respect Intel’s values and adhere to the company’s code of conduct, the board has accepted Mr. Krzanich’s resignation.” The board said it would seek a permanent successor; Chief Financial Officer Robert Swan will step in as interim CEO.
