Iran Slams Trump for ‘Deceitful’ Support of Protesters

The Iranian government on Saturday lashed out at U.S. President Donald Trump for supporting demonstrators taking part in a wave of anti-government rallies. Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Bahram Ghasemi, said the “Iranian people give no credit to the deceitful and opportunist remarks of U.S. officials or Mr. Trump,” according to the Associated Press. A statement from the White House tweeted out by Trump on Friday had urged Iran to “respect their people’s rights, including right to express themselves” amid growing demonstrations. Iranians took to the streets in Tehran and Kermanshah for a third day of protests Saturday, after demonstrations erupted in Mashaad earlier this week. Officials have said about 50 demonstrators were arrested so far. The government on Saturday warned the public against attending “illegal gatherings,” saying they will “create problems for themselves and other citizens.”
