As if tensions between the U.S. and Iran aren’t already high enough, the Islamic Republic Navy is now flirting with the idea of dispatching ships near the Atlantic coast of the U.S. Iran seems to be motivated by anger caused by onetime ally Turkey’s recent commitment to warning European NATO countries of incoming missile threats. Iran does not seem fazed by warnings from the U.S. and Israel that the two powers would be willing to take military action if the country does not give up its nuclear pursuits. Iran has previously asserted that in the event of an attack it would simply strike back, though its defense strategy is based on "deterrence."
