A long-awaited meeting between President Obama and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani was called off by Iran, who called the encounter “too complicated," White House officials said Tuesday. The encounter would have been the first coming together of the two nations since 1979, when the Islamic Revolution in Iran led to the ousting of the shah. At a speech to the United Nations earlier in the day Tuesday, Obama stressed the importance of discussing nuclear weapons with Iran. “I firmly believe the diplomatic path must be tested,” he said.
