An Iranian cancer researcher held at Boston’s Logan International Airport since Monday afternoon was denied entry to the United States and sent back to Tehran with his family. Mohsen Dehnavi, 32, holds a visiting work visa that was issued in May and was on his way to Boston Children’s Hospital to work as a visiting scholar when he was detained Monday. He had just arrived from Iran with his wife and three children. A spokesperson for U.S. Customs and Border Protection said Tuesday that Dehnavi “was deemed inadmissible to the U.S. based on information” discovered during an inspection. Federal officials said Dehnavi’s deportation had nothing to do with President Trump’s travel ban, though they declined to provide any further details, The Washington Post reported. Two weeks ago, the Supreme Court upheld parts of Trump’s executive order banning foreign nationals from six Muslim-majority countries from entering the U.S.
