ISIS militants have destroyed part of Palmyra’s 2,000-year-old temple of Baal, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and sources within the city. “It is total destruction,” a resident told the AP. “It was an explosion the deaf would hear.” The temple had been consecrated in 32 C.E. This destruction comes less than two weeks after militants beheaded the city’s chief archaeologist and destroyed the temple of Baalshamin.
