ISIS Gains Control of Ramadi

On Sunday, the self-declared Islamic State gained control of Ramadi, the capital of Iraq’s largest province, sending Iraqi forces out despite recent U.S.-led airstrikes targeting the militant group. It is considered to be one of their biggest successes and is a major setback in pushing the extremists out of Anbar. The decision to withdraw was made in order to prevent mass casualties and Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi called in paramilitary forces.
