Israeli and Palestinian officials agreed to renew a ceasefire, after an earlier one expired Wednesday. However, rockets were already fired from Gaza early Thursday morning, which led Israel to respond in kind. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered Israeli Defense Forces to fire in response, claiming Palestinians breached the truce. Hamas official Izzat Reshiq denied the breach and said Israel caused “a violation of the calm.” Prior to the renewal of the truce, on Wednesday, there were eight rockets fired from Gaza. Hamas denied involvement in that attack. There were no reports of casualties.
