A claim by the so-called Islamic State that its members carried out an attack on Israeli police in Jerusalem on Friday was quickly shot down by both Israeli authorities and Palestinian militants on Saturday. A spokesperson for the Israeli police said there was nothing to tie ISIS to the attack that left one policewoman dead and another officer injured on Friday night. “It was a local cell. At this stage no indication has been found it was directed by terrorist organizations nor has any connection to any organization been found,” police spokeswoman Luba Simri said Saturday. The group had claimed responsibility for the attack—which would’ve been the first on Israeli territory—through its Amaq news agency. But Palestinian militants have also cast doubt on that claim, with Izzat El-Reshiq, a senior official from Hamas, attributing the attack to Hamas members on Twitter.
