Tell us what you really think, you guys. Longtime Oscar writer Bruce Vilanch and this year’s host James Franco had a war of words Monday, played out through New York magazine and Twitter. It started this morning, when New York posted an interview with Vilanch, in which the comedian said “I have to call James Franco and tell him the show’s over.” Vilanch said Franco didn’t realize “how big a deal it is” to host the Academy Awards, and only showed up the Thursday night before Sunday’s show. Franco answered on Twitter on Monday afternoon, posting “Bruce, you let me down” with a photoshopped picture of himself and Vilanch—complete with pink scrawl over the photo: “James fucked up the Oscars. Trust me, I know comedy. I mean, come on, I write for Bette Midler!” Franco has since removed the tweet, which is still visible here. Vilanch wasn’t all negative about Franco, saying the host “wasn’t high.”
