Belgian artist Jan Fabre is installing his enormous, mind-bending sculptures of the human body at the Biennale. He elaborated the sculptural tableaux, titled From the Cellar to the Attic – From the Feet to the Brain, for the Kunsthaus Bregenz in 2008, and they follow the layout of a body, with the feet beginning in the basement and the brain ending on the upper level. The installation documents a “mythical world of horror, beauty, and metamorphosis,” with one work depicting a man shoveling the brain out of a gigantic, skinless head rising out of mounds of loose dirt.
