Japan’s government publicly critiqued the owners of the troubled Fukushima nuclear plant on Saturday, citing “problems” in Tokyo Electric Power Co.’s crisis response and urging more transparency. Government spokesman Yukio Edano blamed TEPCO for sending workers into the radioactive plant without enough protective footwear. “We strongly urge TEPCO to provide information to the government more promptly,” Edano said. Meanwhile, radiation has spiked in seawater near the plant and the U.S. Navy is scrambling to deliver fresh water in order to help cool its damaged nuclear reactors.
