Perhaps the world was premature earlier this week in thinking the worst of Japan’s nuclear crisis was over? After having already ordered people living within 12 miles of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant to evacuate, Japan is now encouraging people who live between 12 and 19 miles away to also leave the area. The newest worry is that the reactor vessel of the No. 3 unit has been damaged, possibly releasing radiation from uranium and plutonium into the atmosphere. Fears of a breach arose after workers at the No. 3 reactor were hospitalized after coming in to contact with water that was 10,000 times as radioactive as normal. The No. 1 and No. 2 reactors may also be leaking radioactive water.
