Jay-Z and Beyoncé: The Birth of Blue Ivy Carter

The latest news on Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s baby Blue Ivy Carter.

      Baby-oncé Takes Twitter by Storm

Less than a dozen hours after her birth, Blue Ivy Carter was already a top trending topic on Twitter Sunday morning—albeit written as “Ivy Blue Carter.” The mistake resulted from incorrect early reports. Other related terms trending on Twitter included “Bey and Jay,” “#NamesBetterThanIvyBlue,” and “Illuminati’s Very Youngest.” Whether Blue Ivy will be able to eclipse her father’s 1.3 million Twitter followers or her mother’s 2.5 million followers remains to be seen.

      Blue Ivy or Ivy Blue?

It was first reported that the new princess of the hip hop would be called Ivy Blue Carter, but reports soon surfaced of a more unusual alternative: Blue Ivy Carter. Celebrities in the know like Gwyneth Paltrow (!?) soon had to come out to settle the case, and Beyoncé herself was, of course, the most authoritative: “Officially Blue Ivy Carter for those asking. A whole world awaits you :)” The name Blue reportedly comes from Jay-Z’s three albums under The Blueprint banner, while the name Ivy is a reference to the number 4 (Roman numerals IV)—a number which Beyoncé apparently holds in high regard.

      $1.3 Million Maternity Ward

The power couple rented out the entire fourth floor of the Lenox Hill Hospital for $1.3 million—spare change for them, in exchange for some valuable privacy. The singer used the name “Ingrid Jackson” when she checked into the hospital on Friday night, and on Saturday, a hospital staffer confirmed that someone named Ingrid Jackson was in a “labor room.” Security at the hospital was extra tight—doctors and nurses unaffiliated with the birth were forbidden from entering the fourth floor after 11 p.m. To prevent a leak of any images, the hospital’s security cameras were covered and employees had to turn over their cell phones when they arrived for their shifts. Apparently security was watching the throne of baby Blue Ivy.

      Due Date Scandal

Did Beyoncé lie about her due date to get reporters off her back? In an October interview with Australia’s Sunday Night, the soon-to-be mother said she’s due in February. Either her doctors were off by a month, or she pulled a fast one on Baby-oncé watchers.

Celebrities Welcome the Princess of Hip Hop

Almost as soon as Blue Ivy was born, a multitude of celebrities took to Twitter to offer their congratulations. Notably, Gwyneth Paltrow, a close family friend, was the first to confirm Blue’s arrival tweeting, “Welcome to the world Blue! We love you already.” While singer Rihanna posted, “Welcome to the world princess Carter! Love Aunty Rih.” And Beyonce’s sister, Solange, tweeted that Blue was “The most beautiful girl in the world.” Celebs like Russell Simmons, Diddy, Snooki, and Kourtney Kardashian also tweeted their congratulations.

Man: Blue Ivy Ruined Hospital Visit

Not everyone is so excited over the birth of Blue Ivy Carter. Neil Coulon, whose wife gave birth to premature twins at Lenox Hill Hospital over the weekend, claims that Beyonce and Jay-Z’s security team took over the hospital and prevented him from seeing his children. Coulon said that he was repeatedly barred from the sixth-floor neonatal unit and that bodyguards cleared his relatives from a sixth floor waiting room. Coulon said, “This is the NICU. Nobody cares if you’re a celebrity. Nobody is star-gazing. They just want to see their children.”
